嘉禾張生汝霖獨於經治有專習，曩余在錢唐時，首以父命來受《春秋》五傳學。更鄉舉者三，而藝未競，生不以咎有司，而咎經術之未至，益恒若力所習經，有加無已，坐誦行思，恒若無誨者，故又負笈，不遠水陸，尋余九山之澤，以終其業焉。非其學經志於明道，而不計科之利不利者歟！吾義其不畔吾門，又奇其性之有恒，而志之必有成也。嘉禾之野，其得遺其人也哉！

吁！《春秋》主斷之書，志成者及之也。明其道，不計其功者，又《春秋》之教也。若生之志，蓋已得《春秋》之斷，而其道已得《春秋》之教矣。他日推之任也，天下之治孰禦焉！彼習經以利科，科一利而經復棄，終亦必亡而已者，又何議為？
