嘉禾謝玉淵氏名其燕處之堂曰「生春」，取靈運《西堂》詩句也，京兆杜伯原父既為作小篆書之，而又徵記於予。予嘗過其家，必宴予堂之上，講《春秋》經學。

嘗扣玉淵曰：「聖人以春一言加王正之上者，非史氏文也，《春秋》第一義也。傳經者盧周正非春，則曰夏時冠周月。吁！寅正始春，人所知也，又豈知子正為春之生之始乎。論三統者，以十一月乾之初九、陽伏於地，故黃鍾為天統，春之所由以生，而為萬物開闢之端也。使聖人假寅正於子月，是天時懸隔於王正者常兩月也，何以示信於人乎！生春之義莫深於《春秋》，又豈汝家容兒吟弄草木者所能知乎？」玉淵避席曰：「謹受教。」予曰：「未也。吾聞幽有谷也，壤美而苦寒，五穀不生，百草不殖，工律者一吹，而春氣應、草木生，人之相天時有如此者。今深山窮谷，豈無固陰沍寒、歷春氣而不毛，雖太陽仰煦而有不能及者，使律氣均，應不毛者皆生生而不已，君豈無術乎即生春者？推之物有彼其賜者矣，毋徙資之夢寐之間、為吟哦之具而止也。」玉淵崇酒攜觴鞠蒐而謝曰：「某不敏，不惟受生春教，且受《春秋》教也。」至正十三年
