七月二十三日，朝奉郎試中書舍人蘇軾同胡宗愈、孫覺、范百祿等狀奏。右臣等伏見朝議大夫直龍圖閣劉攽，近自襄陽召還秘省，旋以病，乞出守蔡州。自受命以來，日就痊損，假以數月，必復康強。謹按攽名聞一時，身兼數器。文章爾雅，博學強記；政事之美，如古循吏；流離困躓，守道不回。此皆朝廷之所知，不待臣等區區誦說。但以人才之難，古今所病，舊臣日已衰老，而新進長育未成，如攽成材，反在外服，
