臣自去歲蒙恩召還，即時奏乞越州。蓋為臣從仕以來，三任浙中，粗知土俗所宜，易於為政。又以老病日加，切於歸休，舊有薄田在常州宜興縣，久荒不治，欲因赴任，到彼少加完葺，以為歸計。越雖僻陋，在臣安便。及近者蒙恩知定州，雖寵眷隆異，而自早衰多難，心力疲耗，實非所堪。但以求州得州，若便辭免，是有揀擇，所以勉強拜命。今復念，定雖重鎮，了無邊警，事權雄重，祿賜優厚。若辭定乞越，於義無嫌。伏望聖慈察臣至情，特賜改差臣越州一次。則公私皆便，臣不勝幸甚。取進止。
