厥草惟夭，厥木惟喬，草有柔蔓，木有繁條，緣根兮附帶，布葉兮敷茵，朱華粲兮下覆，本幹蔽兮不昭，嗟兮此木幾歲幾年而至於合抱，夫何此草一旦一夕而遂曰凌霄，是使藜藿蒿艾慕高豔而仰翹翹也，安知蘋藻自潔，蕙蘭自芳，芙容出汙而自麗，芝菌不根而自長，或紉佩帶，或采頃筐，或製裳於騷客，或登歌於樂章，故得為馨為薦為嘉為祥，皆無附著亦以名揚，奚必託危柯而後昌，吾謂木老多枯，風高必折，當是時將恐摧為朽荄，不復萌蘗，豈得與百卉並列也邪。
