「吁嗟先生，誰使汝坐堂上稱太守？前賓客之造請，後掾屬之趨走。朝衙達午，夕坐過酉。曾杯酒之不設，攬草木以誑口。對案顰蹙，舉箸噎嘔。昔陰將軍設麥飯與蔥葉，井丹推去而不嗅。怪先生之眷眷，豈故山之無有？」先生听然而笑曰：「人生一世，如屈伸肘。何者爲貧？何者爲富？何者爲美？何者爲陋？或糠核而瓠肥，或梁肉而墨瘦。何侯方丈，庾郎三九。較豐約於夢寐，卒同歸於一朽。吾方以杞爲糧，以菊爲糗。春食苗，夏食葉，秋食花實而冬食根，庶幾乎西河、南陽之壽。」
