蘇氏族譜，譜蘇氏之族也。蘇氏出於高陽，而蔓延於天下。唐神龍初，長史味道刺眉州，卒於官，一子留於眉，眉之有蘇氏自此始。而譜不及者，親盡也。親盡則曷為不及？譜為親作也。凡子得書，而孫不得書者，何也？以著代也。自吾之父，以至吾之高祖，仕不仕，娶某氏，享年幾，某日卒，皆書，而他不書者，何也？詳吾之所自出也。自吾之父，以至吾之高祖，皆曰諱某，而他則遂名之。何也？尊吾之所自出也。譜為蘇氏作，而獨吾之所自出得詳與尊。何也？譜，吾作也。嗚呼！觀吾之譜者，孝弟之心可以油然而生矣。

情見於親，親見於服，服始於衰，而至於緦麻，而至於無服。無服則親盡，親盡則情盡，情盡則喜不慶，憂不弔；喜不慶，憂不弔，則塗人也。吾所與相視如塗人者，其初兄弟也。兄弟其初，一人之身也。悲夫！一人之身，分而至於塗人，吾譜之所以作也。其意曰：分而至於塗人者，勢也。勢，吾無如之何也。幸其未至於塗人也，使其無至於忽忘焉，可也。嗚呼！觀吾之譜者，孝弟之心可以油然而生矣。

系之以詩曰：吾父之子，今為吾兄。吾疾在身，兄呻不寧。數世之後，不知何人。彼死而生，不為戚欣。兄弟之情，如足于手，其能幾何？ 彼不相能，彼獨何心？
