世人論墨，多貴其黑，而不取其光。光而不黑，固為棄物。若黑而不光，索然無神采，亦復無用。要使其光清而不浮，湛湛如小兒目睛，乃為佳也。懷民遺仆二枚，其陽雲「清煙煤法墨」，其陰雲「道卿既黑而光」，殆如前所雲者，書以報之。
