孔子沒，道日以衰熄，浸淫至於漢，而傳注之家作。為師則有講而無應，為弟子則有讀而無問。非不欲問也，以經之意為盡於此矣，吾可無問而得也。豈特無問，又將無思。非不欲思也，以經之意為盡於此矣，吾可以無思而得也。夫如此，使其傳注者皆已善矣，固足以善學者之口耳，不足善其心，況其有不善乎？宜其歷年以千數，而聖人之經卒於不明，而學者莫能資其言以施於世也。

予悲夫《洪範》者，武王之所以虛心而問，與箕子之所以悉意而言，為傳注者汩之，以至於今冥冥也，於是為作傳以通其意。
