《詩》云：「穀則異室，死則同穴。」古今之葬皆為一室。獨蜀人為一墳而異藏，其間為通道，高不及肩，廣不容人。生者之室，謂之壽堂，以偶人被甲執戈，謂之壽神以守之，而以石甕塞其通道。既死而葬則去之。軾先夫人之葬也，先君為壽室。其後先君之葬，歐陽公誌其墓，而司馬君實追為先夫人墓誌，故其文曰：「蜀人之祔也，同壟而異壙。」君實性謙，以為己之文不敢與歐陽公之文同藏也。東漢壽張侯樊宏，遺令棺柩一藏，不宜復見，如有腐敗，傷子孫之心，使與夫人同墳異藏。光武善之，以書示百官。蓋古亦有是也。然不為通道，又非詩人同穴之義，故蜀人之葬最為得禮也。
