杜詩舊本病於篇章之雜出，諸家注釋，人為異同。淦北山子曾季輔，平生嗜好於少陵最篤，編其詩仿《文選》體，歌行律絕，各為一門。而紛紛注釋，自以意為去取。意之所合，列於本文下方，如《東萊詩記》例，而總目之曰《少陵句外》。予受而讀其凡，蓋甚愛之。既錄其副，則復慨然曰：世人為書，務出新說，以不蹈襲為高。然天下之能言眾矣，出乎千載之上，生乎百世之下，至理則止矣。虛其心以觀天下之善，凡為吾用，皆吾物也。是意也，東萊意也，而北山子得之。觀舞劍而悟字法，因解牛而知養生，予也受教於北山子矣！
