左轄公以「拙軒」自號，征文於某，謹述而銘之。去古既遠，天質日喪，人偽日勝。機械之士，以拙為諱，天下萬事，一以巧為之。矜長出奇，爭捷求售，其心汩汩焉如弄丸，如運斤，如刻猴之工，如貫虱之射，唯恐巧之不極。至於汲黯之戇，絳侯之訥，石建之醇謹，卓茂之迂緩，班超平平之策，陽城下下之考，咸共嗤點，以為不智。事業之鄙陋，風俗之薄惡，實坐於此。

惟公以清白傳世德，以忠信結人主。出入四朝，再秉鈞軸，危言高論，聳動天下。發凶豎未形之謀，則先識者以為明。犯強臣不測之怒，則疾惡者以為高。視千載無所於讓。其以拙為號者，非欲賢於斯世而已也。
濂溪先生
論拙之極致，有「天下拙，刑政徹。上安下順，風清弊絕」之語。夫能至於上安下順，風清弊絕，則天下之能事畢矣。然則公之所以自名者，乃所以自任耶！
