宋子曰：天道平分晝夜，而人工繼晷以襄事，豈好勞而惡逸哉？使織女燃薪，書生映雪，所濟成何事也。草木之實，其中韞藏膏液，而不能自流。假媒水火，馮藉木石，而後傾注而出焉。此人巧聰明，不知於何稟度也。
人間負重致遠，恃有舟車。乃車得一銖而轄轉，舟得一石而罅完，非此物之為功也不可行矣。至葅蔬之登釜也，莫或膏之，猶啼兒失乳焉。斯其功用一端而已哉？
