節婦姓梅氏，平江人，適廣平路總管致仕浦侯子。
至正十六年
春，淮兵南下，守臣弗夙戒，城遂沒。婦夫懼其齒之壯，足以集禍也，乃攜婦匿旁小民家。民逆知其有所挾，心利之，陰出召外兵。

兵入，夫逸去，婦為兵所得。兵見其色，將汙之，婦曰：「若欲者，貨耳，我悉以與若，若其舍我。不然，我有死耳，終不能為失身人也。」因探懷出其金，兵持婦少懈，遂乘間脫赴渠水中。水淺，不得死，兵遂至水次，以刃擬婦曰：「亟出！否則死是水矣。」婦不為動，兵遂舍去。後至者婦面水上，知其生，復欲鉤出之。婦力挽不肯升。兵怒，以戈撠其腋死焉。三日，夫得其屍，殯於舍後廢圃中。蓋余與浦鄰也。

嗚呼！婦之死節，猶臣子之死忠孝，分也，曷足異哉？然君子之聞一事，則亟書而累稱之，若不得已焉者，豈非以教化不興，風俗既壞，人知而死者少，而不死者多歟？今作《梅節婦傳》，亦余之不得已也，悲夫！
