噫！余見翁時，歲暮，天風憭栗，野草枯黃。日將晡，余循去徑還家。媼、兒子以遠客至，具酒。見余挾書還，則皆喜。一二年，妻、兒皆亡。而翁與余別，每勞人問死生。余雖不見翁，而獨念翁常在宇宙間，視吾家之溘然而盡者，翁殆如千歲人。昔東坡先生為《
方山子傳
》，其事多奇。余以為古之得道者，常遊行人間，不必有異，而人自不之見。若筠溪翁，固在吳淞煙水間，豈方山子之謂哉？或曰，筠溪翁非神仙家者流，抑巖處之高士也歟？
