此書自崇禎己卯起，先取《一統志》，後取各省府州縣志，後取二十一史參互書之。凡閱誌書一千餘部，本行不盡，則注之旁；旁又不盡，則別為一集曰《備錄》。年來糊口四方，未遑刪訂，以成一家之書。歎精力之已衰，懼韋編之莫就，庶後之人有同志者為續而傳之，俾區區二十餘年之苦心不終泯沒爾。
