彭舉為人畫冊葉十片，皆生平所遊山水，是其得意之筆，鍾居易見而欲得之，即舉以為贈。吾為彭舉計，彭舉自為其畫計，皆當出此。夫為庸人可求而得，已非高士之情矣，況又使奇人求而不得乎？
居易將復往南都，因為題其冊，使堅彭舉。曰：必不得已而為庸人畫，可以屈其手，令不至於大佳；不幸而至於大佳，每逢奇人輒與之。夫如是，則吾他日亦可邀惠數片耳。
