《詩》三百篇即古人之韻譜。經之與韻，本無二也，病在後之學者執韻而論經；其不能通，則改經而就韻。夫道若大路然，安用此多岐乎？休文之四聲，神珙之翻切，三代之所未有也。顏師古、章懷太子始有葉韻之說，而漢以前亦未之有也。乃援今而議古，焉得不圓鑿而方枘乎？且經學自有源流，自漢而六朝而唐而宋，必一一考究，而後及於近儒之所著，然後可以知其異同離合之指。如論字者必本於《說文》，未有據隸楷而論古文者也，已僭成一書，今先刻《音論》附往。
