十二月二十一日，行南洋大臣左宗棠文稱：
光緒九年十二月十九日，本衙門具奏遵議「升用翰林院侍講許景澄奏敵情叵測，籌備宜嚴，條陳目前事宜」一摺，軍機大臣奉旨：『依議。欽此』。相應抄（摘）錄原奏、恭錄諭旨，咨行貴大臣查照欽遵可也。
