臨喪則必有哀色，執紼不笑，臨樂不歎。
「臨樂」，與觀樂也。與於人之哀樂，則不干之。
介胄則有不可犯之色。
雖肄習之，如敵在前。
故君子戒慎，不失色於人。
「失色於人」，失其所以待人之色也，承上文而推廣言之。唯常存戒慎，則心恒爲主於内而順應乎事物，則凡所酬酢，皆適如其哀樂剛柔之節，人不得以窺其失矣。
