恭啟南明總督何大人鈞鑒：
竊以為，夫為將者能去能就，能柔能剛，能進能退，能弱能強。今我大順雖敗於山海關，暫棄北京城，轉戰數省尚能擁眾五十萬，今退守荊襄，誓與清兵相抗衡也。今奉旨致書與何督與左帥，是欲與聯手而抗清也。我與諸君雖屬兩朝，但終必都是漢人也，豈能將國家大好江山假手於滿蒙？果真不敵，情願將江山交與南明。眼下情形，我等比之若唇齒，唇亡則齒寒之理，督爺更之清楚。願督爺協同說服左帥與我聯手，共抗滿人。江山之歸屬，趕走滿蒙再逐鹿中原才是至理，企昐福音。
