聖人優劣論

荀愔等以為聖人俱受乾坤之醇靈．稟造化之和氣．該百行之高善．備九德之淑懿．極鴻源之深閭．窮品物之情類．曠蕩出於無外．沉微淪於無內．器不是周．不充聖極．荀以為孔子稱大哉堯之為君也．唯天為大．唯堯則之．是為覆蓋眾聖．最優之明文也．孔以堯作天子九十餘年．政化洽於民心．雅頌流於眾聽．是以聲德發聞．遂為稱首．則易所謂聖人久於其道．而天下化成．百年然後勝殘去殺．必世而後仁者也．故曰．大哉堯之為君也．堯之為聖也．明其聖與諸聖同．但以人見稱為君爾．

又

馬之駿者，名曰騏驥。壤戤駿者，名曰韓盧。壤戤有韓盧，馬之有殯驥，人之聖也，名號等。設使騏驥與韓盧並走，寧能頭尾相當，八腳如一，無有先後之覺矣！
