國家承平日久，制度、文物、禮樂之盛，無不著在大典，布之成書。其底治於我朝，實比隆於三代。予歸老山中，習閱舊卷，或友朋清談，舉凡事有古今相符者，上至天音之密勿，次及名臣之事蹟，與夫師友之言行，陰陽之變異，凡有益於世道，資於談柄者，不論目之所擊，耳之所聞，悉皆引據而書之。積歲月而成帙，名之曰《山居新語》。其不敢飾於文者，將欲使後之覽者便於通曉，抑且爲他日有補於信史之一助云爾，爰是爲序。至正庚子三月既望，中奉大夫、浙東道宣慰使、都元帥楊瑀識。
