《書》曰：「出入自爾師虞，庶言同則繹。」虞之為言度也，出納之際，庶言之所在也，必得我師焉。夫言有同異，則聽者有所考：言其利也，必有為利之道；言其害也，必有致害之理。反復論辯廷議，而眾決之：長者必伸，短者必屈焉；真者必遂，偽者必窒焉。故邪正之相攻，是非之相稽，非君子之所患。君子之所患者，庶言同而已。考同者莫若繹，古者謂紬繹，紬絲者必求其端，究其所終。《太甲》曰：「有言逆於汝心，必求諸道。有言遜於汝誌，必求諸非道。」《君陳》之所謂繹者，《太甲》之所謂求也。孫寶有言：「周公大聖，召公大賢，猶不相說，著於經典，兩不相損。」晉王導輔政，每與客言，舉坐稱善。而王述責之曰：「人非堯舜，安得每事盡善。」導亦斂衽謝之。古之君子，其畏同也如此。同而不繹，其患有不可勝言者矣。
