《八韻關鍵》者，義山朱君時叟所編賦則也。魏晉以來，詩猶近於三百五篇，至唐，法始精。晚唐之後，條貫愈密，而詩愈漓矣。賦亦六藝中之一，觀雅、頌大約可考。騷辨作而體已變，風氣愈降，賦亦愈下。由今視乾、淳以為古，由乾、淳視《金在熔》《有物混成》等作又為古，矧《長楊》《子虛》而上胡可復見！然國家以文取人，亦隨時為高下，雖有甚奇傑之資，有不得不俯首於此。若朱君立例嚴，用功深，蓋亦深達於時宜者。朱君執此以往，一日取先場屋，然後舍而棄之，肆力於為文，其於古也孰御？雖然，又豈為文哉！
