客海南以來詩也。海南詩而曰《
東海集
》者何？魯仲連天下士，友人之志也。友人自為舉子時，已大肆力於詩，於諸大家皆嘗登其門而涉其流。其本贍，其飬銳，故所詣特深。到余嘗評其詩，渾𣶬有英氣，鍛錬如自然，美則美矣，猶未免有意於為詩也。自喪亂後，友人挈家避地，遊官嶺海，而全家燬於盗，孤窮流落，困䪺萬状。然後崖山除禮部侍郎中，且權直學士矣。會南風不競，御舟漂散，友人倉卒蹈海者，再為北軍所鉤，致遂不獲死，以至于今。凡十數年間，可驚可愕、可悲可憤、可痛可悶之事，友人備嘗，無所不至，其慘戚感慨之氣，結而不信，皆於詩乎發之。盖至是動乎情性，自不能不詩，杜子美䕫州、柳子厚柳州以後文字也。余與友人年相若，又同里閈，以斯文相好，然平生落落不相及。及居楚囚中，而友人在行，同患難者數月。其自五羊至金陵所賦，皆予目撃，或相唱和。時余坐金陵驛，無所作為，乃取友人諸詩，筆之於書，與相關者并附，為後之覧者因詩以見吾二人之志，其必有感慨於斯。
