太史公以來，載籍之作，大義粲然著矣。至於老蝕半瓦，着力汗青，何止間見層出，而善序事，善裁論，比良班馬者，固有犖犖可稱。然書多失傳，世固少接，被諸籤目，往往莫詳，況有窺津涯、涉閫奧者乎！乃爲網羅散軼，稽輯見聞，采菁獵奇，或標一二。仍依劉向《七錄》法，各彙其書而品其指意。後有才者，思欲商榷千古，鈐括百家，大筆修辭，緝熙盛典，殫極功緒，與史並驅，其必有準於斯。
