夫至道之本，貴在無為；聖人之跡，存乎拯弊。弊拯由跡，跡用有乖於本，本既無為，為非道之至。然不垂其跡，則世無以平；不究其本，則道實交喪。丘、旦將存其跡，故宜權晦其本；老、莊但明其本，亦宜深抑其跡。跡既可抑，數子所以有餘；本方見晦，尼丘是故不足。非得一之士，闕彼明智；體二之徒，獨懷鑒識。然聖已極照，反創其跡；賢未居宗，更言其本。良由跡須拯世，非聖不能；本實明理，在賢可照。若能體茲本跡，悟彼抑揚，則孔、莊之意，其過半矣。
