護左都水使者光祿大夫臣向言：所校讎中子華子書凡二十有四篇，以相校複重十有四篇，定著十篇。皆以殺青書可繕寫。子華子程氏名本，字子華，晉人也。晉自頃公失政，政在六卿，趙簡子始得志，招徠賢俊之士為其家臣。子華子生於是時，博學能通墳典丘索及故府傳記之書，性闓爽善持論，不肯茍容于諸侯，聚徒著書，自號程子。名稱籍甚，聞于諸侯，孔子遇諸郯，歎曰：天下之賢士也。簡子欲仕諸朝而不能致，乃遣使者奉纁幣聘以為爵執圭，是時簡子殺竇犢及舜華，孔子為作臨河之操。子華子亦逡巡不肯起。簡子大怒將脅之以兵，子華子去而之齊。齊景公不能用也。子華子館于晏氏，更題其書曰子華子。簡子卒襄子立，子華子反于晉，時已老矣，遂不復仕以卒。今其書編離簡斷，以是門人弟子共相綴隨紀其所聞而無次敘，非子故所著之書也。大抵子華子以道德為指歸，而經紀以仁義，存誠養操，不苟於售，唯孔子然後知其賢。齊大夫晏平仲與之為久要之交。當時諸侯以勢相軋爭，結怨連禍，日以權譎為事，子華子之言如持水納石，不相酬答，卒以不遇。可為酸鼻。謹日錄。臣向昧死上
