宋子曰：兵非聖人之得已也。虞舜在位五十載，而有苗猶弗率。明王聖帝，誰能去兵哉?“弧失之利，以威天下”，其來尚矣。為老氏者，有葛天之思焉。其詩有曰：“佳兵者，不祥之器”，蓋言慎也。火藥機械之竅，其先鑿自西番與南裔，而後乃及於中國。變幻百出，日盛月新。中國至今日，則即戎者以為第一義。豈其然哉？雖然，生人縱有巧思，烏能至此極也！
