卻說成王李雄，使李驤率兵五萬，來攻寧州。刺史王遜已知，遣將軍姚岳領軍三萬拒戰。
次日，二軍相遇，交戰不十合，成軍敗走。岳催軍追至瀘水而還。回見王遜，遜以岳不窮追李驤，乃大怒鞭岳，怒甚，冠裂而卒。
遜在州十四年，威行殊俗，士民得安。於是朝廷已知其卒，詔以其子王堅為寧州刺史，代領其眾。
