》者，蓋出於《
孝經
》也。仲尼說《孝經》而敦事君之義，則知孝者俟忠而成。是所以答君親之恩，明臣子之行。忠不可廢於國，孝不可弛於家。孝既有經，忠則猶闕；故述仲尼之意，撰《忠經》焉。今皇上含庖軒之道，茂勛華之德；弼賢俾能，無遠不奉。忠之與孝，天下攸同。臣融巖野之臣，性則愚樸；沐浴德澤，其可默乎？作為此經，庶少裨補，誠則辭理薄陋，不足以稱。為忠之所存，存於勸善；勸善之大，何以加於忠孝者哉？夫定卑高以章目，引詩書以明義。皆師於古，曷敢徒然？其或異同，從忠孝之宜也。或對之以像其意，或遷之以就其類，或損之以簡其文，或益之以備其事。以忠應孝，亦分為十有八章。所以弘其至公，勉其誠信。本為政之大體，陳君事之要道；始於立德，終於成功。此《忠經》之義也。謹序。
