婦人居常而早寡者，無死道也。夫不以良死，則義可死。而堂有舅姑，室有子，或己之父母篤老而無兄弟，則其死也，雖當於義而傷於恩。蕪湖呂九儀死於仇，其妻夏氏將死之，姑止之。逾年，仇抵死如法。夏氏遂修舊業，持門戶，於今二十年。姑既歿，二子受室而成家矣。其始之欲就死也義，終則不愆於義亦不傷於恩。故夏氏之生也，賢其死也。
