或問之曰：天台智者大師舍八而用六何也？答曰：舍六無可用也，天台之功，斯為最大。今夫八識眾生，不自知其有；不知其有，而欲用力以厄之也末由。六識眾生，自知其有，自知其有，則可以厄其四運，用其雙照，以入乎中道。語曰：「一夫當關，萬夫莫開。」天台之功，斯為最大。先說《四念處》，後說《覺意三昧》，皆說三十七道品也。徑山刻本有《四念處》，無《覺意三昧》，予故表微。梵本六卷，假之龍泉寺。
