爲天子削瓜者，副之，巾以絺；爲國君者，華之，巾以綌；爲大夫，累之；士，疐之；庶人，齕之。
「瓜」，甜瓜，夏食之以解暍。「副」，四析而横斷之，成八片。「華」，中裂横，不四析。巾覆瓜上，置器中進之。「累」，不巾覆也。士、庶人不言「爲」者，令自削之。「疐」，去其疐，不裂也。「庶人」，府、史之屬。「齕」者，但自削皮，疐則齕去之。必去疐者，疐苦也。此公庭大會，天子食瓜而賜羣下之禮。
