余名曰汐洛思，英人。乙巳年臘月五日，至英國第一大邑凱爾切斯特。踽踽於外，是日天青日耀，遂據案飲茶。
忽有白髮女者，顧我曰：“無恙乎？食否？” 余對曰：“已食矣。汝何如？” 余心惑之：『彼意欲何？』茫然不省。
復問曰：“余髮不亦善乎？” 余仰視之，其髮既顥，皎若霜雪。余唯睹其白，乃對曰：“善哉！余亦嘗染髮為白如此。”
女驟然色慍，曰：“然則以我為老女乎？”，言罷，拂袖而去。去數步，復顧余，乃疾行不復顧。
後乃知其髮梢綴丹，蓋赤色也。余愕然自失！即能見赤梢，所言必異矣！
