其一
驅竪攀登椰可摘，教傭斜割相初收。
野人別有林居趣，啄木來禽上樹猴。
註：土人懶惰，除受有教育及訓練者外，野蠻人偏有野蠻福。飼猴馴習，能代做工，上樹摘椰。有時烏殘，亦可坐收橡汁。不只榴蓮成熟，風動自落也。
其二
入市嗚嗚蘆笛聲，長蛇屈曲繞圈行。
是何音調聽難懂，嗜樂偏憐有下生。
註：有弄蛇為戱者，口中吹一短樂器，調殊簡單，先蛇而作，後蛇而息，蛇即出笥，進退昂伏，受其指揮，若甚異與者。說者謂利用蛇之聽覺敏銳，兼有喜悅一種音聲之傾向，遂中弄蛇者之催眠而身不自主也。
