註：英文Coolie，國語譯作苦力，閩南語譯作龜里。英文之Chief，閩南語譯作才副，凡店中較高之職員屬之。英文之Comprador，滬譯作康白度，閩南譯作坎巴禮株，凡銀行買辦稱之。此三級均非老闆。南洋老闆從閩南俗乃稱曰頭家，僑中階級觀念不深，只有頭家與龜里兩等。欲脫龜里籍而過頭家癮者，開一爿店，便可取得，但弗校鋪租方易成功，好虛榮者請問津焉！
