嗚呼！天不欲使斯民見太平耶。不然，夫何以公之有志乎經濟，而卒不得施耶。天之保祐善人，其卒茫茫而不可恃耶。不然，夫何以公之積仁潔行，而遽至於斯耶。
嗚呼！卓絶之行，宏博之論，吾不復見其人也。方公之逝也，我在西州。其殯焉，不得撫棺而盡哀。其堋焉，不得視公之柩入于土也。豈但我之抱恨終身，抑恐長逝者魂魄，有憾於冥冥之中也。
嗚呼！先民有言：死者復生，生者不愧。敎公之諸孤，卒以成人，揚公之志行，以傳諸後，儻可以少蓋前愆，公其知耶，其不知也耶。
