海陸相合處，時生灘。表覆沙，下有砂，同乎大漠也。灘接海陸以成坡，依其陸域，而坡度各異。生靈之友者，唯龜生焉，而它者亦可入灘。
或域臨海而不生灘，如濘澤、蕈野、塬之屬。
灘無材可取，而沙下偶有湮寶。
變
灘之變者有二，曰石岸，曰雪灘。
石岸
石岸（Stony Shore）者，當風丘或當風林臨海而成也。地皆石，雜佈礫。其勢也峻，故時覆雪。多泉，無生靈之友者。
雪灘
雪灘（Snowy Beach）者，雪原抑雪棘林臨海而成者也。表覆沙，如其常者，而沙上覆雪。近灘之水亦冰。
