丁玲者，名蔣偉，字冰之，近世文壇之奇女子也。誕於湘之臨澧。少時失怙，隨母徙居常德，幼承庭訓，性敏而剛。及長，負笈京滬，浸淫新學，嶄露頭角。民國十五年，《夢珂》問世，繼作《莎菲女士日記》，文辭犀利如刃，剖世態人心毫芒，一時洛陽紙貴，名動海內。

值國步艱難，玲投身左翼文潮，創《北斗》以振鐸，文風愈顯崢嶸。然時局板蕩，竟陷囹圄三載，身繫南冠而志不稍奪。逮脫樊籠，星夜兼程赴延安，
毛潤之贈詩「昨日文小姐，今日武將軍」，蓋嘉其志也。

平生三易鸞儔，初配胡也頻，中道崩殂；再適馮達，終成參商；晚歲得陳明，白首相偕。雖情路坎坷，然其為文也，愈見沉鬱雄渾。及撰《太陽照在桑乾河上》，獲斯大林文學殊榮。

暮年執掌《中國》雜誌，提攜後進不遺餘力。至若文革浩劫，亦嘗遭困頓，然風骨未折。臨終執筆猶問：「文章可續否？」丙寅年三月四日，溘逝於京，年八十有二。
