重房本藤原支族，得丹波國何鹿郡上杉庄爲封，遂氏之。其家附足利氏而榮，足利氏既爲將軍，以諸上杉鎮關東。子孫世爲關東管領。戰國季年，徙米澤
。今上杉氏徒存其家名而已，實非重房之裔。
