中東者，古之大食，是為其源。其土之境，蓋地中海之東，是海之南，亦併其海之東至波斯灣，腹地甚闊。二大古文明，悉源於此也，二大者何？曰古挨及，曰兩河

夫中東之稱，
歐洲中心論之語也，然究其論者，何以呼之曰中東？實乃方位遠近之故，何謂也？蓋歐羅巴以東，二區之界也。有何二區？曰近東，曰遠東
。是故中東之地，
亞非利加、
歐亞大陸過渡之帶也。
夫中東之地，其狀甚繁，或起或伏，或沙漠，或高山，或高原，或草原，亦或沖積平原。然其氣候，四季皆乾且燥也，何以故？蓋副熱帶高壓所致耳。是地之民，自古即事牧、農二業，然近世之年，經濟勃興，皆因石油開採之故也。
中東之民，主伊斯蘭教，是為三大宗教之源。有何三大？曰猶太，曰基督，曰伊斯蘭
。然阿拉伯與
猶太之民，自古時有干戈，時至今日，其紛未斷，何以故？蓋種族、宗教之異也。
