拉斐爾，名桑西，義大利烏比諾人，生於一四八三年。幼承父學，習繪畫。師事彼魯吉諾，技藝日進。及加冠，遷羅馬，受教宗召命，赴梵蒂岡繪「雅典學院」，聲名遠播。作品多繪耶穌聖母事，兼營土木建築。卒於公元一五二年，享年三十七，葬於萬神廟。
