輪者，圓轉器也，用於車載貨殖
。其形圓而中空，以軸貫之，轉動自如。輪之外周稱輻，內有輻條，以支撐輪面。上古之輪多製以木石，後箍以金鐵。輪之用，乃減少土石摩擦，使車行迅捷。
輪之用，不獨於車，亦見於他器，如水車、磨盤，皆藉輪之轉動以成其功。輪之發明，促進交通，為文明所重。
