天際線，即視界極處，天地之交匯也。仰望遠方，地平如線，青天蒼穹與之相接，形成一界限。古人稱之為
天涯
或
地極，寓意天地相連而無窮盡也。旅人行至遠處，覺地天相隔，遂以地平線為目之所及，天之所覆，而無法直達之境地。
