This page gathers the various tools used by this website and presents them separately for convenient use. Other websites with useful components are also linked here.

Mandarin phoneticisation

Mandarin has an unusually large number of phoneticisation systems, which can be overwhelming. This uses dohliam’s pinyin-rb to convert between thirteen of them.

Character data extractor

This preserves the old Cangjie lookup while also allowing other stored character data to be extracted in bulk. Paste one character, a codepoint such as U+8BF4, or a complete sentence to produce one row for each unique Han character.

This can enrich flashcards: definitions, dictionary entries, and readings can be previewed on the page or downloaded as CSV.

Anki deck enricher

Paste a tab-separated Anki export here and enrich one field using the characters found in another. This is useful when each note should carry Kangxi, Shuowen, Guangyun, or reading data as HTML for later AI prompting or flashcard study.

Lunar calendar date converter

The Chinese lunar calendar uses the sexagenary cycle to format dates. This uses elct9620 lunar_calendar to convert between Gregorian and Chinese calendar dates.

Numeral converter

A simple mapper for Chinese numerals that accounts for some occasional outliers and variant forms. It is not perfect, but works for most cases. It is also used to produce the more robust lunar-calendar representation shown in the site header.

Historical measurement converter

Enter a historical Chinese measurement or a modern one. The converter will express the same quantity using the Chinese standard you choose and show modern equivalents where an exact scale is known.

Chinese measurements work much like “8 ft 4 in”: number, then unit. 八尺四寸 = 8尺4寸. Spaces are optional. 5ft7, 5′7″, and 1m75 are accepted too. Common Pinyin, Jyutping, and Taiwanese spellings are also accepted.

Enter a measurement above.
