吾素自無廊廟志，直王丞相時果欲內吾，誓不許之，手跡猶存，由來尚矣，不於足下參政而方進退。自兒娶女嫁，便懷尚子平之志，數與親知言之，非一日也。若蒙驅使，關隴、巴蜀皆所不辭。吾雖無專對之能，直謹守時命，宣國家威德，固當不同於凡使，必令遠近咸知朝廷留心於無外，此所益殊不同居護軍也。漢末使太傅馬日磾慰撫關東，若不以吾輕微，無所為疑，宜及初冬以行，吾惟恭以待命。
