法者葢繩墨之斷例，非窮理盡性之書也。故文約而例直，聽省而禁簡，例直易見，禁簡難犯，易見則人知所避，難犯則幾於刑厝。刑之本在於簡直，故必審名份，審名分者必忍小理。古之刑書，銘之鐘鼎，鑄之金石，所以遠塞異端，使無淫巧也。今所注皆網羅法意，格之以名分，使用之者，執名例以審趣舍，伸繩墨之直，去析薪之理也。
