古不墓祭，葬於中原，而廟在大門裏，不敢外其親。平明出葬，日中反虞，不敢一日使神無依也。周衰禮廢，立寢於廟墓。漢因而不改，以先帝衣冠四時上盥水、進菓實，而禘祫祭祀皆於宗廟。及其末，因寢之，在墓咸往祭焉。蓋由京師、三輔酋豪、大姓力強財富，婦女贍侈，車兩相追，宿止墓下，連日厭𩚿，遂以成俗，迄乎今日。夫死者骨肉歸乎土，神而有靈，豈其守夫敗壤而繫乎草莽哉！
